Quite a few Flotilla 5-4 members, who have been trained and qualified, actively support the Coast Guard's Marine Safety Detachment (MSD), located on River Rd., by regularly performing MOM Patrols.

The purpose of the patrols is to observe, record and report hazards or threats to the waterways and infrastructure. No active intervention is taken. Areas of interest, which include marinas, businesses, terminals, railways and bridges, are visited and observations are reported to the Duty Petty Officer at MSD.

Land patrols are carried out using MSD's vehicle. During the summer months a combination of land and water patrols may be utilized.
